A month in my mind...December 2021

This is the second of my monthly blogs… my first for 2022! Last year went by so quickly, not sure if you felt the same? I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas seeing family and friends and you managed to avoid the dreaded virus. I had a lovely Christmas with some much needed family time, plenty of fresh air and time spent cozy of the sofa watching films with my favourite two people.

I hope you enjoy seeing what I got up to for the last month of 2021, with client work, my own personal work and things that have inspired me.

A month in my mind…
Client Work

I had a lovely month of work in December, from Wedding brochures, GIF animations, report designs and lots of social media tile and story designs for my regular clients.

Below are two pieces of client work from December.

Triggerfish

Project: Digital Wedding Brochure

Who doesn’t love a good Wedding? I thoroughly enjoyed designing the wedding brochure for Park House Hotel, one of Triggerfish’s clients. I got totally lost in how the whole brochure could Beautifully flow, showcasing the venue and the incredible space to capture those all important memories.

Every time I give her a vague idea of what I want she astounds me by producing exactly what I want but a hundred times better!

Learning

Another tutorial and time well spent in the world of drawing and learning with a gorgeous outcome of this beautiful bunch of flowers. I already want to create a bunch of flowers in my style for The Lily Mae Foundation, that could be used for Mother’s Day.

I have found the lovely thing about taking time to develop my skills is, it allows me to take the things I learn into client projects.

Gaining Knowledge

Over my Christmas break I spent time learning more on Procreate from a course I had purchased from Every Tuesday. I absolutely loved learning more about how to use the gouache brushes and how I could take elements of this style into my own work.

Playing

Creating a sense of freedom with art feels amazing. While out for a family breakfast date, we decided to draw with our eyes closed, sounds a bit odd… You should try it. Isla suggested a rabbit but this little fella looks like a cross between a rabbit and a frog with boobs… known as a ‘Frobit’

A month in my mind…
What makes me tick

I love keeping notes of things that excite, inspire and set my world on fire, whether thats a magazine designed beautifully, podcasts, beautiful packaging, or a colour that catches my eye.

Below are things that inspired me last month.

Left image: A set of photos from a photoshoot in October landed in my inbox in December and they blew me away with how much love is captured in the photos. Our daughter’s are my true inspiration in life.
Middle image: A gorgeous book ‘Into Green’ Everyday ways to find and lose yourself in nature. It’s a lovely book to dip in and out of… my favourite sentence so far is; ‘Into green’ is about finding a balance of getting outside to simply enjoy this beautiful planet, as well as meaningful interactions with nature to cultivate a healthy daily headspace. The colour green is seen as the most balanced colour as it sits within the middle of all the other colours. How perfect are the wall colours in our newly decorated lounge… they go so well with this book!
Right image: I regularly walk in the mornings, I have learnt over time that this is something that I need in my life. It gives me some much needed headspace and allows me to let my brain wander or listen to a podcast. I realised that I spent more time worrying about all the things I needed to get done and if the pandemic hasn’t taught me anything, it has taught me that slowing down and taking my time with work will serve me better. If you like walking my favourite podcast is called: The Great Indoors, it is all about interior styling.

DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT IN MIND?

If you like what I get upto and think that I would be a good fit for your business, I would love to hear from you whether it is for Design, Illustration or GIF creations.
