How to build your colour confidence

So a little bit of a background into me and my habits with colour… A few years ago I wouldn’t have really entertained colour, like the bolder statement colours. I might have paired a mint green with a light grey… But really that is skirting around the biscuit! I would not have had the confidence to choose a bolder colour palette let alone say ‘yes I really love the colour pink and mustard yellow, these colours really make me happy’ says she with a pink bathroom floor now. I had been so stuck with my usual go to colours like grey and dark blues it has been a breath of fresh air to finally step into the world of colour.

So...How do you feel about colour?
Are you drawn to bright colours? Earthy colours? or Darker colours?

The choices of colours are endless aren’t they? We all see colour differently. How many times have you had a debate about how you see a colour to how someone else sees it.

Colours can be really emotive, we are naturally drawn to different colours for different reasons. Different colours can transport us to different places. Like when I think of turquoise I am instantly transported to the beautiful sea in Cornwall.

When I see these colours listed below, I immediately link them too...

Warmer Colours
Red - Love
Orange - Sunsets long Summer evenings
Yellow - Daffodils and the coming of Spring
Emotions conveyed in the warm colours would be, passion, upbeat and fun.

Cooler Colours
Green - Nature, forests, long walks
Blue - The colour of the sea with a cheeky bit of green thrown in - Cornish seas are the best.
Violet / Purple - Flowers, Alliums in full bloom
Emotions conveyed in the cool colours for me would be, Calm and relaxing.

Showcasing warmer and cooler colours in nature

Colour is so powerful and more so than I think a lot of people might consider. A colour palette forms part of the look and feel of any piece of design or illustration, how it all balances. The colours you choose could be what draw people into your business! Crazy hey!

Here are 3 tips to build your colour confidence:

THINK about how you are drawn to the brands you love. Have you seen a colour you love in a brands profile picture, tapped the profile image and before you know it are down the rabbit hole of following, liking, sharing and ultimately making that
all important super save and long term purchase.

All because of colour!

When you are thinking of re-looking at your colour palette introducing a new colour or having a total refresh, really sit and think about how different colours make you FEEL and what you want others to feel from your brand colours. Think about how colours could work together across your brand, how could these be used across your social media and other items you need in your business.

Choosing a set colours that work together can really enhance the overall look and feel of your brand. CREATE a set of colours that ultimately you love and are proud of and bring your brand to life.
